Seattle's Crystal Skulls opened more than ably, performing dead-on renditions of songs from both last year's debut and their latest, Outgoing Behavior (brilliant and now available).

John Vanderslice and his now permanent band, consisting of David Broecker, Ian Bjornstad, Dave Douglas, and Dan Brennan, provided an innovative set, as always. One thing multiple visits to a JV show reveals is just how much the songs evolve and change over the course of performances. One is essentially assured a different sound every time out. The band played selections from across the Vanderslice catalog, dating back to the MK Ultra days, showing that they've gelled nicely after two tours together in the last few months.
